A new student group at New Westminster Secondary is hoping to raise awareness about dementia at an information session at the school this week.

The Communi-Tea for Dementia Awareness, organized by the NWSS branch of the Initiative for Neuroscience and Dementia, will feature presentations from city senior social planner John Stark and MLA Judy Darcy, as well as educational activities, refreshments and live music by students.

The event is designed to provide information about dementia and give attendees an opportunity to connect with others in the community who care about the issue.

Initiative for Neuroscience and Dementia is an Ontario-based, youth-run organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for dementia research.

The New West branch was founded this fall.

The Communi-Tea for Dementia Awareness takes place at the school on Friday, April 17, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
