Say goodbye to the lazy days of summer and welcome the arrival of fall this weekend. Here are our Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend for the Sept. 20 to 22 weekend:

1.  Celebrate the mid-autumn festival that’s popular in Chinese and Vietnamese cultures. The second annual Lantern Festival is taking place in Queensborough on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. People can create beautiful LED-powered lanterns under the full moon, enjoy live entertainment, and feast on traditional moon cakes. The fun takes place at the Port Royal Park at the east end of Ewen Avenue. For more information call the Queensborough Community Centre at 604-525-7388.

2.  Try out ringette at Moody Park Arena on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 3:15 p.m. Kids aged four to 13 can join members of the Burnaby New West Ringette for beginner ringette drills and games. The event is free and includes skate rentals and sticks. People should dress warmly and bring any equipment they have (such as helmets, knee or elbow pads), but some helmets will be available to borrow. The event is open to kids of all skill levels, including beginner skaters. Pre-registration is required because space is limited. To register, go to www.cometry
ringette.ca.

3.  Audition for Royal City Musical Theatre’s spring production of Annie. Children are invited to audition on Saturday, Sept. 21 and adults’ auditions are on Sunday, Sept. 22. For the full audition schedule, visit http://tinyurl.com/RCMTAnnie.

4.  Help kick off RiverFest 2013 at the riverfront cleanup on South Dyke Road in Queensborough. The family-friendly event takes place on Sunday, Sept. 22 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. You can pick up garbage, keep track of the garbage collected on the foreshore or help remove invasive plants that have been tagged by volunteers. For more, see www.nwep.ca or www.shorelinecleanup.ca.

5.  Learn to curl at a clinic being held at Royal City Curling Club. The clinic takes place from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Sept. 22, while a clinic for those wanting to brush up on their curling skills runs from 11 a.m. to noon. For more details visit www.royalcitycc.com.

6. Enjoy afternoon tea with fellow community members, as part of Popluck New Westminster’s Afternoon Tea Delight. The event, which is taking place on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., is the final Popluck event of the year. People are encouraged to bring a thermos of their favourite tea to share, as well as some lovingly prepared treats such as baked scones with jam, finger sandwiches and pastries. For more details or to RSVP go to http://popluck-twitter.eventbrite.ca and people will be notified in advance if the event is canceled because of poor weather.

7.   Buy some new plants at the Burnaby Cactus and Succulent Society Plant Sale on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Royal Square Mall, which is at the corner of Eighth Street and McBride Boulevard.
