The Soroptimist Club is looking to recruit women of New Westminster to better the lives of women and girls locally and around the world.

Soroptimist International of the TriCities is hosting a get-together for local business and professional women at the New Westminster Public Library on Tuesday evening.

"Soroptimist Clubs undertake many wonderful programs, which are meaningful to them, to support women and girls. It is hoped that women in New Westminster will join the Soroptimist mission with their own programs to help women and girls in their community to live their dreams," a press release from the club states.

The club donates about $1.5 million each year to 1,500 women and girls to help cover costs associated with education, tuition, child care, transportation and books.

Soroptimist members Bea Kelly and Angela Bunting are hosting Tuesday's event, which starts at 6:45 p.m. For more information, email [email protected]
