New Westminster residents are invited to join in a celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Spirit of the Children Society, in partnership with the New Westminster Museum and Archives, is presenting a free event on Thursday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westminster Pier Park.
The event celebrates the drumming of Indigenous cultures. It includes performances by Smokey Valley, Ta Na Wa Kawstem, Ache Brasil, South Asian Arts and Uzume Taiko and features storyteller William Nahanee.
Red Fox Healthy Living Society will have youth leaders on hand to guide kids and families in circus arts, stilts, pogo sticks, hula hoops and group games.
People will be able to share in some bannock, pick up Indigenous books for children (while supplies last) and take part in a variety of activities including traditional arts and crafts.
The Eats at the Pier concession will be open for the event.
See www.sotcs.ca for more information, or just drop by the park on Thursday to join in the celebration.
