New Westminster attracted tiaras and sashes from near and far for the recent Coming Home to Hyack Ambassadors’ reunion.

The Hyack Festival Association invited past Miss New Westminsters and ambassadors back to the Royal City for an alumni reunion. While some of the women who’ve been part of the program in the past four decades still call New West home, others came from as far away as California and Washington State for a chance to gather with friends during the Sept. 19 to 21 reunion weekend.

A variety of events were held during the three-day reunion, including a pre-game reception at the NWSS Hyack Football’s homecoming game, a breakfast at River Market, a group photo at noon at city hall, a tour of the Royal City, a wine tasting tour at Pacific Breeze, a craft beer tasting at Steel & Oak, a pub night at the Terminal Pub and a garden party at Westminster Pier Park.

“As for the weekend, on a scale of one to 10, was probably a 27,” organizer Deb Wardle wrote in an email to The Record. “It was a fantastic reunion and everyone that I talked to and heard from had a great time.”

Based on the success of this year’s event, planning is already in the works for a Come Home to Hyack event next year.
