Rick Gill, a Leadership 11 and 12 teacher, and students at Purpose Secondary hope the community will rally behind their Oct. 27 fundraiser.

A Krispy Kreme donut sale fundraiser is helping to support a meal programs, bus passes and field trip at Purpose Secondary.

Operated by the Lower Mainland Purpose Society, Purpose Secondary is able to enroll 90 students in Grade 8 to 12 who, for a variety of reasons, find it hard to have their learning, social emotional or mental health needs met in a traditional school setting.

Rick Gill, Leadership 11 and 12 teacher, said Purpose Secondary is a relationship-based, student-centred learning environment, where students feel emotionally and physically safe.

“We have small classes. We cater to students and their needs,” he told the Record.

Next week’s fundraiser will support the breakfast and lunch programs that are offered to all students, activities and field trips linked to student learning and growth and monthly bus passes for students who cannot afford the expense.

The Krispy Kreme donut sale fundraiser is taking place on Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. a few doors down from Purpose Secondary’s new home. It relocated to the former Army & Navy department store space in the spring, after operating on Begbie Street for many years.

“We are going to be outside the Columbia Street Sandwich Company, which is at 550 Columbia St., just down the street from us. We are basically neighbours,” Gill said. “They allowed us to piggyback on their business, which is awesome.”

One dozen original Krispy Kreme donuts will sell for $12. Cash only.
