Fraser River Discovery Centre is focusing on fungi at its next Super Saturdays.

At the Nov. 26 event, FRDC is shining a spotlight on the different kinds of fungi and mushrooms in the Fraser River Basin.

“The forests of the Fraser are made up of many individual sprawling trees and plants – or are they?” said Stephen Bruyneel, FRDC’s director of external relations and development, in a news release. “Fungi are the secret communication and transportation network of the forest, connecting almost all land plants. Join us on Nov. 26 to learn more about common, local mushrooms and their many roles around the Fraser River as the cool, wet weather brings them out to shine.”

Fraser River Discovery centre staff will help guests learn about fungi, including how: they connect the forest through the “wood wide web;” to identify local mushrooms and learn the parts of a mushroom fruiting body; and to make a mushroom print to take home.

“Families with children of all ages are welcome to this event,” Bruyneel said.

COVID-19 safety protocols are in place at Super Saturdays, including the need to pre-register at www.fraserriverdiscovery.org.

Fraser River Discovery Centre, located at 788 Quayside Dr., offers a variety of exhibits and programs related to the Mighty Fraser.
