Fraser River Discovery Centre will be delving into different plant in the Fraser River Basin at Super Saturday.
Super Saturdays, a series of public programs that explore different facets of the Fraser River, is looking at many of the different plants that thrive in the Fraser River Basin at this month’s event. It’s on Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The Fraser watershed is filled with vibrant plant-life of all shapes and sizes,” said Stephen Bruyneel, the centre’s director of external relations and development. “Many of these plants are very important to the ecosystems they inhabit. Indigenous peoples have long understood the value of plant life not only as a source of food, but for medicine and useful materials as well.”
At this month’s event, guests will take inspiration from real-life examples of plants to create their own ideal plant designs and they’ll be able to think of ways people can protect plant life in our communities.
Visitors will be able to learn about native plants such as salmonberries, fireweed and devil’s club; use coloured felt pieces to create their very own plant design; and add their voices to Fraser River Discovery Centre’s Wishing Tree community project.
“All ages are welcome for this Super Saturday, although these activities are best suited for families with children aged six and up,” Bruyneel said in a news release. “Everything will also be consistent with our COVID health and safety plan, and masks must be worn at all times for visitors aged six and older. Pre-registration is also recommended.”
Super Saturdays take place at Fraser River Discovery Centre on the last Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendance is free with admission to the galleries, but pre-registration is recommended at www.fraserriverdiscovery.org. Located at 788 Quayside Dr., Fraser River Discovery Centre provides a variety of programs and exhibits related to the Fraser River.
