We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend.

This issue, we have the grand opening of Westminster Pier Park, a course on safe cycling, an annual garage sale and something free and fun for Father's Day.

1 Westminster Pier Park officially opens this Saturday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The celebration includes entertainment, kids' and sports activities, storytelling, jugglers, wall climbing, kite-making, stilt walkers, food from River Market vendors and more.

The City of New Westminster is encouraging everyone to walk, bike or take transit to the event. A bike valet will be on site to provide free, secure bicycle parking.

2 Hone your communication skills on Friday, June 15 at a free life skills workshop at New Westminster Public Library, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The session is conducted in English with Spanish translation available. The library is at 716 Sixth Ave., wheelchair-accessible.

For info/registration, call MOSAIC at 604-522-3722, ext. 155.

3 Get your cycling skills up to par on Saturday, June 16 from noon to 4: 30 p.m. at the Centennial Community Centre at 65 East Sixth Ave.

HUB will be presenting a streetwise cycling course, teaching people safe bicycling skills through classroom and on-road training. To register, go to http: // bikehub.ca/streetwise.

4 Get digging for bargains and treasures at the annual Glenbrooke North Residents' Association garage sale on Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Glenbrooke North area extends from 10th Avenue to the north side of Sixth Avenue, from McBride Boulevard to the east side of Sixth Street.

Organizers say the sale will go ahead rain or shine.

The association is also accepting donations for Monarch Place, a local transition house for women and children escaping violence.

5 Head to Queen's Park for Father's Day. The New Westminster and District Concert Band is performing for free on Sunday, June 17, from 2 to 3 p.m.

The show is part of a free summer series in the Queen's Park bandshell.

The band has various skill levels, from beginner to senior, and all levels will be performing on Sunday.

Bring a blanket, pack and picnic, and make a day of it.
