Inspiring words: Record columnist Dr. Davidicus Wong returns to Inspiration Day at Century House this weekend to offer some inspiring words to seniors.

Inspiration can be found in many places, and recently in New Westminster that place was Century House.

The seniors’ centre hosted its second annual Inspiration Day on Jan. 18. The event featured a number of workshops and activities aimed at inspiring the over 50, including technology is not a four-letter word, life mapping - inspiration through reflection, and brain fitness.

The event also featured a keynote speech from Dr. Davidicus Wong, a family physician at the PrimeCare Medical Centre in Burnaby and one of The Record's regular columnists. Wong, who was part of the inaugural Inspiration Day event last year, spoke to seniors about inspiration and presented his own "7 Wellsprings of Inspiration."

"There was a really receptive, energetic audience," he said.

Wong said about 100 people turned out to hear his thoughts on inspiration and where it comes from. His keynote speech, which ran nearly an hour, touched on everything from everyday heroes, inspiring people, superheroes and love.

"When I was talking about superheroes I recalled my best friend, after we saw Superman for the first time and believed a man could fly, my friend said, 'what if you were able to fly and for your whole life you didn't know because you didn't try?'" Wong said. "That was kind of a challenge to the seniors who were trying to learn new things."

Wong has already signed up to be the keynote speaker again at next year's Inspiration Day. When asked why, he told The Record the event is not only inspiring for seniors who turn out, but for him as well.

"I think we all need inspiration at some point," he said. "To know that we're all going through the same journey, just at different stages."
