You can learn how the Fraser Canyon influences weather in the Lower Mainland at this weekend’s Super Saturdays’ event in New West.

Super Saturdays is a regular series of public programs at Fraser River Discovery Centre that celebrate the Fraser River. This weekend’s event will focus on weather processes.

“The Fraser Canyon is the windiest place along the Fraser River and it impacts weather in other areas,” said Karen Lee, executive director of the FRDC. “The Fraser Canyon can influence whether we get snow or rain in the winter; join us to learn how.”

Super Saturdays: It’s a Breeze, being held on Saturday, Jan. 27, features a variety of activities for visitors to the centre. This includes: modelling cold, winter winds through the Fraser Canyon with hands-on science demonstrations; learning to identify clouds and finding out what they can tell you about the weather; and designing the best fan to test the power of wind.

“Super Saturday is open to families with children of all ages,” Lee added.

Located at 788 Quayside Dr. on New Westminster’s waterfront, Fraser River Discovery Centre provides a variety of exhibits and programs related to various aspects of the Mighty Fraser.

Super Saturdays is a series of public programs filled with family-friendly activities, all focused on a different Fraser River topic. The series takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the last Saturday of every month.

Tickets for Super Saturdays include paid admission to the Discovery Centre. (There’s no charge for FRDC members).
