Landscape architect Bruce Hemstock will be sharing stories about the development of Westminster Pier Park at this weekend’s Faces of the Fraserspeaker program at the Fraser River Discovery Centre.
Hemstock, a partner with PWL Partnership Landscape Architects, was the partner in charge of the design and implementation of Westminster Pier Park, which opened on New Westminster’s waterfront in 2012. He’s proud of the fact that the park’s design draws inspiration from the historical, cultural, and ecological influences of the Fraser River and recognizes the strong ties the city and its residents have had with the river over the years.
“The Pier Park has been a fantastic addition to the waterfront, so we are very excited to have Bruce join us to talk about it as part of Faces of the Fraser,” said Discovery Centre executive director Stephen Bruyneel. “With all the different interests in the Fraser River, it wasn’t easy to plan and develop the park, so we look forward to hearing how he was able to do just that.”
Hemstock will speak about the development of Pier Park on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. at Fraser River Discovery Centre, 788 Quayside Dr. The event is free to the public with admission to the centre, but a limited number of seats are available, so pre-register at www.fraserriverdiscovery.org/FOTF/Upcoming or 604-521-8401.
