It looks like it’s going to be another beauty of a weekend so head outside for some fun under the sun. We are continuing with our popular feature, The Record’s Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for Aug. 22 to 24.

1. Grab a blanket and head out to Queen’s Park Stadium for the summer movie series. Friday Aug. 15, catch the family favourite Up. Gates open at 7 p.m. and the movie gets started at dusk – approximately 8:30 p.m. In case of rain, call 604-527-4634 to check on the status of the movie.

2. Fill your stomach at the second annual StrEAT food truck festival Saturday, Aug. 23 on Columbia Street. The festivities get started at 4 p.m. with 50 food trucks taking part in the event this year, including Vij’s Railway Express, Big Red’s Poutine, Johnny Pops and many more. The event also features three beer gardens and kids activities. The festival runs until 10 p.m. For more info visit www.downtown
newwest.ca.

3. Make your way to the mini Royal City Farmers Market at the Columbia StrEAT food truck festival on Saturday, Aug. 23. The summer market typically runs every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. but organizers are setting up a pop-up market at the food truck festival. Visitors will be able to enjoy the variety of food truck bites and shop for fresh produce at the same time.

4. Get moving at a Zumba class on Sunday, Aug. 24 at River Market. The weekly drop-in class gets going at 9 a.m. in Community Square. For a $5 fee, folks can shake up their fitness routine with a combination of dance and fitness to bumpin’ beats. The class has space for 30 people and is open to ages 14 and up. For more information or to claim a spot ahead of time, visit rivermarket.ca/event/zumba-class and click on Sunday, Aug. 24.

5. Take your pooch for a fun-filled day at Queen’s Park at the 15th annual Doggy Fun Day. Organized by the Volunteer Education & Assistance Team for Animals, this event gets started at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24 and goes until 3:30 p.m. The event features a variety of canine competitions, including the “world famous” bobbing for wieners contest. The event is free but owners are asked to keep their furry friends on leashes.
