The Salvation Army is raising funds for its relief efforts abroad at its fourth annual fall bazaar.

The event is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 325 Sixth St.

THRIFTY'S OPENS

The newest grocery store to open in New Westminster will cater to shoppers' needs day and night.

Thrifty Foods opened in the Brewery District in Sapperton on Wednesday morning.

"A 24-hour store offering fresh, fast and convenient food options in the heart of the Brewery District just makes sense," said Thrifty Foods president Jim Dores in a press release. "For those en route to the SkyTrain or visiting or working at the Royal Columbian Hospital, Thrifty Foods Sapperton provides healthy snacks and hot meals for those on the go as well as an extensive array of local, organic and everyday grocery items."

To celebrate the grand opening, Thrifty Foods has partnered with the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation to raise money for the hospital through fundraising activities such as a $2,500 Facebook 'Like' campaign and Thrifty Food's annual Pumpkins For Charity event.

PENNY CAMPAIGN

Students at Richard McBride Elementary School are doing their best to help out Honour House.

Laura Swanson, chair of the school's parent advisory councils, said the students at Richard McBride have done a penny drive for several years.

"We have always used the funds to purchase items needed for the school or to do something special for the students," she said in an email to The Record. "Last year we were inspired by Honour House here in New Westminster with their Penny in a Pot campaign."

The parent advisory council agreed to donate half of the money raised for the penny drive to Honour House.
