Wait, don’t throw that old milk jug into the blue bin just yet.

Oliver Samonte, a.k.a. Dr. Recycle, is inviting local kids and families to take part in an upcoming Junkology workshop at River Market during Environment Week.
Samonte will be on hand Wednesday, June 6 and Thursday, June 7 from 1 to 6 p.m. daily, so local families can drop by and turn empty milk jugs and other recycleables into ducks, sharks, whales and a host of other artistic creations – without any glue. People are encouraged to bring along empty milk jugs and other recyclables to take part in the fun.

Samonte, who bills himself as “B.C.’s mad junkologist,” has been turning recycling into art for 20 years. He visits schools and speaks at libraries and other community locations, inspiring kids and adults to creatively reuse recyclable materials.

Participation in his River Market workshop is by donation, with money raised going to the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation. You can donate at the event, or online at www.bcchf.ca/recyclethon.
