It was an evening of fun and games and all for a good cause.
École Qayqayt Elementary School’s parent advisory council (PAC) hosted its first-ever spring carnival last week, and it was a great success. The event featured games, face painting provided by The Stage New West, a cake walk (throwback anyone?), raffle prizes and a smorgasbord of food, including cotton candy, grilled smokies, hot dogs, pizza, apples and juice, PAC co-chair Serena Trachta told the Record.
The meat for the barbecue and the apples were provided by Buy Low Foods, and Panago Pizza supplied the pizza.
There was also a 50/50 draw. Oh and the winning ticket? That would be 509396. The winner has until Friday, April 28 to claim their $93.50 prize.
Two special thank yous to note: one to principal Karen Catherwood for her help with the logistics of the event, and another to the parents who volunteered many hours to make the event a success, Trachta said.
The carnival raised more than $2,500. All proceeds go to support extracurricular activities for students and other programs at the school, including drama workshops, cooking and gardening workshops, art programs and field trips to places like the Museum of Anthropology and Science World, Trachta said.
Mom’s night out is back!
Be honest, an evening away from the kids is sometimes impossible to fit into your busy schedule. Well, the PAC at Richard McBride Elementary School wants to make it a little easier.
On Friday, May 5, the group is once again hosting its popular Mom’s Night Out community event and fundraiser. The free evening kicks off at 7 p.m. and offers moms a chance to get out and socialize with other moms in the city.
And did we mention there’ll be opportunities to be pampered? There will be more than 20 vendors to check out, 25 gift baskets to bid on and door prizes up for grabs. Appetizers and desserts are included and you can bet they’ll be serving wine and beer.
While there is no entrance fee, the event is a fundraiser for McBride’s PAC, so bring your wallets. Organizers are asking folks to RSVP online. Click here to let them know you’re coming.
