Steel & Oak Brewing Co. is hosting its first-ever running event on the weekend – and you can join in on the fun.
The local brewery is holding the-kilometre Steel & Oak Beer Run in Queen’s Park on Saturday May 6, where runners will compete two complete laps of the park. The run was inspired by the success of Steel & Oak’s weekly running club.
“Experiencing the S&O run club community grow over the past year has inspired everyone at the brewery,” said Jordan (JB) Brett, S&O’s tasting room events coordinator. “It’s amazing to see how beer and running can bring so many people together. Our event is intended to celebrate New West’s beautiful scenery, vibrant community and dynamic local businesses.”
The run is sold out, but there are other ways for community members to get involved in this family-friendly event.
Participants will start their run at 11 a.m. A dedicated cheer section will be set up along the section of the run that has a short steep, so community members can cheer them on to give them added energy.
All participants will receive a finisher’s medal, bib, timing chip and grab bag, as well as refreshments and snacks at the finish line. Awards and prizes will be handed out at 1 p.m.
Runners and community members are invited to gather in a beer garden that’s running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Queen’s Park. Folks will be able to purchase beer from S&O, soft drinks and food from the Lucha Libre food truck.
A charity event, the S&O Beer Run is raising funds for KidSport New West, which provide grants (up to $400 per kid per year) to help cover the costs of registration fees so that all kids aged 18 and under in New West can play sports,
Launched in December 2021, the Steel & Oak running club meets every Wednesday at Steel & Oak Brewing Co. at 7 p.m., before participants embark on a run in New West.
