The New Westminster Tennis Club, located in Tipperary Park, is inviting folks to come and check it out this weekend.

The New Westminster Tennis Club isn’t going to let COVID-19 beat it at its game.

The club is inviting community members to attend its open house/new members day on Sunday, June 28 from 2 to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the event, where guests will be able to meet members and tour the courts and clubhouse.

“Swing a racquet, talk to our club pro and our membership and lessons directors. Belong to a part of your community and a fun, healthy way to stay active and social,” said a notice about the event. “All levels of play welcome.”

The event runs rain or shine.

The New Westminster Tennis Club got its start in 1890 on grass courts located at the corner of Carnarvon and Blackwood streets. The club, which has been located in Tipperary Park since 1901, now consists of four hard courts and a clubhouse.

“The club spirit has weathered two world wars, and will not be dampened by the current health crisis,” said the notice. “We have, of course, made certain changes to keep our members and guests safe and healthy. “
