Fraser River Discovery Centre is bidding farewell to its Summer Discovery Days series on the Labour Day long weekend.
Changing colours with the season is the theme of this weekend’s Summer Discovery Days, which runs from Saturday, Sept. 2 to Monday, Sept. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Hard to believe it is almost the end of summer, but we have one more Summer Discovery Day to finish off the Labour Day long weekend,” said Stephen Bruyneel, the centre’s director of external relations and development. “As we did last year, we will be focusing on the changing colours of the seasons.”
Activities at Summer Discovery days includes learning about the hidden layers beneath your feet by making a stratigraphy model; creating your own salmon artwork using simple printmaking techniques; and investigating why the Fraser River water looks so different from the Strait of Georgia it empties into.
“Colours can help us understand and visualize the way things change – from the seasonal shift of summer flowers to fall hues, to the eras and events that can be seen in the layers beneath our feet,” said a notice from Discovery Centre. “Join FRDC staff for the last Summer Discovery Days of the year to investigate why salmon turn red, or how the Fraser River becomes so brown.”
Registration isn’t required, so folks are welcome to drop by Fraser River Discovery Centre at 788 Quayside Dr.
