Sheila Comer, owner of Pink Ribbon Bakery, held a fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation on Sunday, June 24.

"Every year, a portion of what Pink Ribbon Bakery makes goes towards this organization," she wrote in an email to The Record. "On Sunday, every dollar made from everything sold at my bakery will go directly to the foundation."

Sheila had lots of cupcakes and cakes on hand to sell on Sunday as part of the fundraiser. Pink Ribbon Bakery moved into its location at #103-306 Sixth St. in January.

HELP CLEAN UP THE SHORELINE

Royal City residents will be invited to help clean up the riverfront during the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.

The event, which is being organized by New Westminster Environmental Partners, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23.

It will be the kickoff event to this year's RiverFest, which will combine the FraserFest and Artists on the River festival into one event.

"In 1980, Rivers Day began, here in B.C., with a volunteer cleanup along the shores of the Thompson River. Therefore it seemed only fitting that we partner with New Westminster Environmental Partners and encompass the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup as an activity of our celebration of the Fraser River," said Cindy Sales, communications and events coordinator at Fraser River Discovery Centre.

"We are working on a variety of activities and workshops that would be hosted throughout the week and would tie the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup to the Rivers Day celebration weekend creating a week long river awareness promotion."

While the details of RiverFest are still being finalized, opening night is slated for Friday, Sept. 28 at Fraser River Discovery Centre, including food from River Market, a display of a selection of art pieces and entertainment on the boardwalk, the event's opening ceremonies and the unveiling of the new interpretative boardwalk panels.

Saturday, Sept. 29 will feature a full day of displays, activities and entertainment for the whole family as part of RiverFest 2012.
