This month is a wonderful time to meet an author at the New Westminster Public Library. Historical fiction, sports biography and a memoir of a father and a suit are on the agenda, which includes two New Westminster authors.

On Nov. 12 at 3 p.m., New Westminster author Arley McNeney will launch her second book, The Time We All Went Marching. Arley takes us back to the early days of the war when a young mother must make a difficult decision - leave her young son with his grandmother and take off on her own or go back to her boozy husband.

Woven through the story are the many compelling stories of the On to Ottawa Trek of 1935 that her husband told her during their years together.

Arley is a communications consultant with a master's degree in fine arts and is an accomplished wheelchair athlete. Her first novel, Post, was nominated for several awards.

Two prominent sports personalities, Bob Lenarduzzi and Jim Taylor, will talk about their new book Bob Lenarduzzi: A Canadian Soccer Story on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.

Bob's book tells the story of his life in soccer as player, coach, general manager, Hall of Fame inductee and now president of the newly minted Whitecaps FC, which joined the Major League Soccer in 2011.

Jim Taylor has written about sports in Vancouver for more than five decades and has co-authored several sports biographies, as well as his own memoirs.

Governor-General's Award nominee and New Westminster author JJ Lee will visit the library on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. The Measure of a Man begins with JJ's decision to alter his father's last surviving suit for himself. Part personal memoir, part social history of the suit, his book is also about fathers and sons, and learning what it means to be a man.

Please pre-register for Bob Lenarduzzi and JJ Lee in the library or call 6045274667.

The New Westminster Public Library is at 716 Sixth Ave., uptown, and is wheelchair-accessible.
