'It's a big relief': Vancouver man is up $500,000 thanks to lotto win

Some of it will go towards a Christmas trip to visit family.

The holiday season is here early for one Vancouver man.

Richard Prest is taking home $500,000 after he matched all four numbers on the Extra during the Oct. 28 Lotto Max draw. After checking the ticket himself, he got the cashier to double-check it before calling his cousin in Ontario.

"She was very happy for me!” he says in a press release.

The big win will allow Prest some freedom, he says.

“It’s a big relief," he says. "I can have some golden years and it will allow me to do some of the things I’ve always wanted.”

He's planning to use the money for a Christmas trip to Winnipeg where he has family. Then he wants to return to Florida, where he lived for 25 years.
