Summer in Metro Vancouver is forecast to remain warm and pleasant this week.
An upper low hanging over the region this weekend is expected to remain a bit longer before heading eastward, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Gary Lee. Upper lows are basically a pocket of cold air; the recent one is the reason for clouds in the region lately, and the drop in temperatures after the high temperatures last week.
"For tomorrow morning," Lee says of Monday, July 21, "we might start with some coastal mist in the morning."
However, that'll disappear as the upper low heads east. As it goes, it may bring some light showers to the mountains and the Fraser Valley.
A high of 23 C is expected on Monday.
Mid-week warmth
A ridge of high pressure will establish itself over Metro Vancouver starting Tuesday, July 22, keeping the skies clear of clouds and allowing temperatures to rise again, though Lee says it won't be as hot as last week.
Tuesday will see highs of 24 C near the shore with warmer temperatures inland. Wednesday is predicted to be more of the same, and is expected to be the hottest day of the week, says Lee. A high of 24 to 25 C is expected near the shore, with highs of up to 28 C likely inland.
This means clear skies for the next Celebration of Light event.
"Thursday, we're still looking at clear skies; in the evening hours, we could see cloud forming," says Lee.
A high of 24 C on Thursday is expected.
Throughout the week lows of 14 C to 16 C are expected.
Weekend weather
Looking towards next weekend is a bit uncertain, says Lee, as a new upper low is expected on Thursday night.
"There could be showers Friday, but right now it's a little too far to be sure that's going to happen," Lee explains.
It will depend in part on how strong the ridge of high pressure gets in the middle of the week.
That said, he expects the week and weekend to be relatively dry for Vancouver.
