Man dead after daytime shooting in Maple Ridge

Investigators cannot say at this time if it is connected to gang conflict.

A 33-year-old man is dead after a daytime shooting in Maple Ridge on Friday.

Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a a report of a shooting in the 1900-block 216th Street at about 11:45 a.m. 

Once on scene, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say he succumbed to his injures.

Cpl. Julie Klaussner, media relations officer with Ridge Meadows RCMP, says the Serious Crime Unit and Investigation Support Team is on scene. 

"It is still in the early stages of the investigation and at this time, it is unknown if this is related to the Lower Mainland gang conflict. IHIT has deployed and now have conduct of the investigation,” says Klaussner.

This is the fourth fatal shooting this year in Maple Ridge.
