How this Metro Vancouver family created an everlasting candle business (VIDEO)

They're made of steel! 🕯️

A Langley family has created a candle business with a timeless twist.

The Everlasting Candle Co. handcrafts steel oil candles that don't melt. They're also smoke and scent-free. The candlestick is a small steel rod with a fibre wick inside. Clean-burning mineral oil is used for fuel; one 473 ml bottle contains roughly 50-60 burning hours.  The sticks come in five colours: silver, gold, black, champagne, and copper.

Husband and wife team Jesse and Tamara Furgason came up with the idea after seeing the rising demand in the home décor industry. The pair left their life in Australia just under four years ago and relocated to B.C.

They were initially surprised by how popular candle culture is in Canada, given their warmer roots.

"We didn't realize people within North America really enjoy candles burning all the time," explains Jesse.

Family remains an essential aspect of the company. Everlasting Candle Co.’s vase, the Wylie, comes from their firstborn son's middle name.

The Furgasons' unique venture had humble beginnings, in their own garage. Now, with the help of one warehouse and a small team, their products are sold online across North America and carried by numerous local retailers.

"This started as a hobby and a bit of a pet project to work on together. The support of the community has really been uplifting as well and I think that was a really pleasant surprise," says Tamara.
