A storm bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall is expected to make landfall heading into the weekend.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for all areas of Metro Vancouver, along with Howe Sound, Whistler and the area's highways as a "moist Pacific frontal system" will arrive by Friday morning.
"The system will produce rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 mm for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Higher rainfall is possible near the North Shore Mountains and Howe Sound," states Environment Canada.
Along with the rain will come winds gusting up to 80 km/h.
For higher areas, this will mean snow, with up to 25 cm expected in Whistler, the Coquihalla Summit, and Allison Pass.
"Freezing levels will range between 500 and 1000 metres with this system. Whistler and the high elevation mountain passes, particularly Highways 3, 5, and the Sea to Sky, can expect heavy snow," states the federal forecaster.
The storm is expected to ease up later on Saturday.
