Police seek dashcam footage of driver killed by own vehicle at Vancouver McDonald's drive-thru

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

In what Vancouver police are calling a very tragic accident, a driver in a Vancouver drive-thru was struck and killed by their own vehicle.

Officers with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) were called by Vancouver Fire Rescue Services to a McDonald’s location on Main and Terminal streets around 5:30 a.m.

Surveillance footage shows the driver dropping an object out of his vehicle while paying for items. When he went to pick it up, the vehicle rolled forward, colliding into a structural piece of the restaurant. The driver was unable to free himself from the vehicle as he was pinned between the vehicle door and frame, explains a recent VPD release.

“Efforts were made by first responders to revive the man, but tragically, he died on scene,” says VPD Const. Tania Visintin. “This is an absolutely heartbreaking scenario. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of this man.”

The VPD’s collision investigation unit and BC Coroners Service are now investigating.

Anyone with dashcam footage who was driving in the area at the time of the incident, or anyone who may have witnessed the incident, is asked to call investigators at 604-717-3012.
