Wook Jae Jung of Coquitlam won $500,000 playing BC/49 from its Oct. 20, 2021, draw.

When the alarm goes off, what's the first thing you do before starting your day?

For Wook Jae Jung nine mornings ago, he thought he was dreaming when he decided to check the online lottery ticket on his phone and realized his life had changed forever after earning a cool half-million.

“I saw the prize box open up in the app, so I clicked it… And it was saying $500,000," the Coquitlam man said, recalling the "memorable moment" in a news release today (Oct. 29).

He won $500,000 playing BC/49's draw from Oct. 20, 2021, and after going through the stages of shock and awe, he immediately shared the news with his family.

"My mom was sleeping, but I just had to wake her up," Jung said.

"She woke up right away when I said I won $500,000. She couldn’t say anything. I also had to tell my sister."

Jung plans to take his family to Hawaii with some of his earnings and also plans to buy a small condo for himself.

His BC/49 extra winning numbers were 4, 40, 54, and 90. BC Lottery Corporation explains he bought his ticket using their Lotto! app.

More than $34 million has been claimed in 2021 thus far by lottery players in B.C., combining both online and physical-ticket participants.
