The Royal City Literary Arts Society’s Tellers of Short Tales reading series starts up again for the new year on Thursday, Jan. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anvil Centre. It’s happening in Room 413A.

This month’s featured author is Shawn Gale, a Canadian screenwriter, academic and author whose stories and articles have been published in anthologies and periodicals in the U.S. and Canada. He’s the author of the story collection The Stories That Make Us and of the acclaimed fantasy series World of Dawn, which he’s working on developing into a film.

Lozan Yamolky hosts the evening, and everyone who’s interested is invited to bring their own short work to share.

Then, on Thursday, Jan. 16, the society’s In Their Words: Royal City Reading Series continues from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 417.

Ruth Kozak will host the evening, which includes three featured presenters: Sherry Duggal reading the work of poet Mary Oliver, Lauwo George reading the work of author Yewande Omotoso, and Franci Louann reading the work of poet Elizabeth Bachinsky.

Each presenter will share work from their chosen author as well as some commentary about the work being presented. A short question-and-answer session follows each presenter.

The Anvil Centre is at 777 Columbia St. For all the details, see www.rclas.com.
