Royal City Musical Theatre is pulling the plug on its spring musical.

The theatre company has announced on social media that Crazy For You, which was to run at the Massey Theatre from April 9 to 25, is cancelled.

The message from RCMT board president Kristine Ketter notes that the theatre company has been following the mandates of B.C.’s provincial health authority, citing the ban on gatherings of more than 250 people.

“It is our sincerest hope that we will be able to mount the production at a later date, and we will keep you informed in the future, but in light of the ever-changing global environment, we are unable to confirm new dates until such time that the health concerns within the community have stabilized,” Ketter’s statement said.

“Our entire team of production personnel, cast and orchestra have been working hard for months to bring this amazing production to the stage. Due to the amazing community support, Royal City Musical Theatre has proudly brought 30 musical theatre productions to the stage of the Massey Theatre. Together we look forward to continuing this legacy.”

Anyone who has already bought tickets for Crazy For You has a number of options.

The post notes that Royal City Musical Theatre, as a non-profit organization, is dependent upon ticket sales, and a great percentage of production costs has already been incurred.

“In light of this, and the unexpected cancellation of our show, we ask that you consider donating the cost of your purchased tickets back to the organization. An income tax receipt would be provided for these donations,” the post reads.

Alternatively, the post notes, existing tickets can be redeemed at face value for any upcoming production, once those are announced.

For any inquiries regarding tickets, people are asked to contact donations@royalcitymusicaltheatre.com.

“We would like to encourage all of our dedicated supporters to continue to follow the guidelines of our public health officials and take all necessary precautions during this time,” Ketter said in the post.
