Poetry in the Park readings take place Wednesday evenings in July and August at the bandshell in Queen's Park.

Poets and poetry lovers, this one’s for you.

Poetry in the Park is returning to New Westminster next week, and you’re invited.

The weekly event, presented by the Royal City Literary Arts Society with support from the City of New Westminster and the Arts Council of New Westminster, takes place at the bandshell in Queen’s Park. It happens every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in July and August.

Each event starts off with an open mic, where everyone is welcome to share their work, followed by presentations by two feature poets. Opening night, July 3, will feature poets Hasan Namir and Susan Alexander, with host Aidan Chafe.

Audience members are invited to bring a blanket or a comfy chair to get closer to the stage, or attendees can use the bench seating in the park. Everyone’s invited to bring a picnic, a friend and a poem to share. And, yes, the event is kid-friendly and dog-friendly, too.

Search for Poetry in the Park – New Westminster on Facebook for the details of the weekly events.
