Got an idea for a public art piece?

The City of New Westminster has issued a call for artists to create work for the new New Westminster Aquatics and Community Centre (the replacement for the Canada Games Pool).

The city wants to commission one or more professional artists or artist teams to create “a single or multiple permanent site-specific artwork(s) that will be meaningful for Indigenous and other cultures,” according to a city write-up.

The city is working with a budget of $500,000 for all artworks.

Professional artists or artist teams are being invited to submit their qualifications and letters of interest for the project. Artists/artist teams will be chosen using a two-stage selection process: an open call for expressions of interest, followed by an invitation to shortlisted artists to submit a public artwork proposals.

The deadline for expressions of interest for Phase 1 is Thursday, Sept. 12 at 3 p.m.
