New West actor nominated for 2019 Jessie Award

A New Westminster actor is among the nominees for this year’s Jessie Awards.

Nominations for the 2019 Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards were announced Monday evening, June 3.

Among the nominees is New Westminster’s Colleen Winton, who’s up for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Lead Role (Small Theatre) for her turn as Mrs. Lovett in the Snapshots Collective production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

It’s one of eight nominations for the production, which is also up for Outstanding Production – Musical. Other nominations for the show include Chris Adams for Outstanding Direction, Warren Kimmel for lead actor, Oliver Castillo and Jonathan Winsby for supporting actor, Emily Fraser for costume design, and the special Critic’s Choice Innovation Award.

A total of 50 theatrical productions are among the nominations in three categories: Large Theatre, Small Theatre and Theatre for Young Audiences.

Perennial powerhouses Arts Club Theatre Company and Bard on the Beach led the way, with 16 and 15 nominations respectively in the large theatre category.

This year’s awards will be held at Bard on the Beach’s mainstage tent at Vanier Park on Monday, July 15. Tickets are $35.
