Nikkei, a year-long exhibition at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre, explores the personal stories of individuals and families of Japanese descent: unique stories of arrival, heroism in the face of racism, the resilience of community and the experience of generations. The core exhibit will rotate through more than 30,000 photographs, 35 metres of textual records, 500 oral history recordings, 100 film reels and more than 2,500 artifacts and artworks. Call for contemporary dancers: Savage Society is looking for dancers for an upcoming two-week workshop of Tai Gruman’s new play in development, You Used To Call Me Marie … The workshop will explore how an ensemble of six contemporary dancers can create horses. Workshop runs Oct. 15 to 26, with public presentations on Oct. 25 and 26, at Massey Theatre (735 Eighth Ave.) Remuneration of $1,400. Dancers of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to submit; preference will be given to self-identifying Indigenous applicants.
