Laughter Zone 101 is once again on the hunt for B.C.’s Funniest New Female.

The competition is in its fifth year of encouraging female comics to share the stage with each other in a friendly competition. Twenty-eight women from around B.C. competed in the preliminary rounds, and eight finalists will now compete in the final round.

The fun is happening on Thursday, Sept. 12 at Lafflines Comedy Club, 530 Columbia St.

The featured finalists are Leena Manro, Helen Schneiderman, Heather Escaravage, Jessica Pigeau, Emily Bilton, Nina Dosdall, Christine Hackman and Susete Helena.

“This is a very diverse group of comics, with wonderful comedy chops,” said Janice Bannister, owner of Laughter Zone 101, in a press release. “Winners get prize money, guest weekend spots at Lafflines, and the overall winning comic gets to take part in the I Am Woman Hear Me Laff Tour that takes place during the 2020 International Women’s Day celebrations.”

Past winning comics have toured with Debra DiGiovanni, Mary Walsh, Elvira Kurt, Martha Chaves and Susan Rice.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Food and beverage service is available. All audience members get one voting ballot.

Tickets are $18 in advance, available through www.eventbrite.ca. For more information, see www.laughterzone101.com.
