Christmas may seem like a long way away, but it’s already time to start thinking about The Nutcracker.

The Royal City Youth Ballet is once again holding its summer school for dancers, running Aug. 25 to Sept. 1 at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, 6450 Deer Lake Ave. in Burnaby.

The summer school, for all levels from primary to majors, will end with a presentation on the final day, followed by auditions to be a part of the Royal City Youth Ballet Company. Dancers who attended the summer school and auditioned for the company will then return to the Shadbolt Centre on Sept. 15 to audition for Nutcracker roles. (Auditions are for dancers seven and up.)

Dancers who are interested in being part of the company who don’t attend the summer school can audition to be part of the company on Sept. 15. Non-company dancers (ages six and up) can also audition to be in The Nutcracker.

Anyone interested in taking part should register early, since space is limited. See www.royalcityyouthballet.org for full schedule and audition requirements.
