New Westminster's COVID-19 case count is holding steady.
The city saw 35 new cases of coronavirus between Oct. 31 and Nov. 6, according to the latest numbers from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. That's similar to last week's total, 33.
New Westminster isn't yet doing as well, on a per-capita basis, as some surrounding municipalities: Burnaby, with 74; the Tri-Cities, with 87; Richmond, with 41; and Delta, with 22. All of those municipalities – along with North Vancouver and most of Vancouver – are sitting between 1 and 5 cases per 100,000, while New Westminster fell into the 5.1-to-10 range with Surrey and South Surrey/White Rock.
But there are signs that New Westminster's case rates are indeed moving in the right direction. The BCCDC also reports daily case rates per 100,000, based on a slightly different weekly calendar. New Westminster's daily case rate for the week of Nov. 2 to 8 stood at 5 per 100,000, down from 6 per 100,000 the week before.
Test positivity in the same time period stood at 3% for all publicly funded tests, down from 4% the previous week.
As of Nov. 9, 90% of eligible New Westminster residents (aged 12+) were fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
In total, between January 2020 and October 2021, 3,361 people in New Westminster have had COVID-19.
