Trustees will revisit the idea of in-person meetings in April

New Westminster parents will still be able to attend school board meetings virtually until at least April. Trustees say online meetings – which the board has been holding since April 2020 – have been good for parent engagement.

The New Westminster school board will continue have its meetings virtually – at least until April.

Trustees agreed at their Jan. 18 operations committee meeting to continue holding their meetings as they are now: online, using the Webex platform. The board has been holding meetings virtually since April of 2020.

“We’ve seen a lot of engagement; it works for parents who are able to participate in meetings, and I think it works great for staff and the board members as well,” board chair Gurveen Dhaliwal said.

Trustee Dee Beattie said she’s happy to revisit the issue in April.

“I really hope that, as soon as we can, we can move back to in-person, especially for the education committee,” she said, adding she misses in-person meetings in the schools where students can be present.

Trustees plan to revisit the issue at the April 12 operations committee meeting.
