An independent school in New Westminster is reporting five COVID-19 exposures.

Purpose Independent Secondary made its first appearance on Fraser Health’s schools website, which is updated daily with possible exposures to COVID-19 so school staff, students and parents are aware of the exposure risk and know it’s being followed up by Fraser Health. The Dec. 21 update states that exposures occurred at the New West- based independent school on Dec. 7, 10, 14, 15 and 16.

An “exposure” is listed after a person testing positive for COVID-19 was in the school during their potentially infectious period.

Fraser Health’s Dec. 21 update also lists COVID-19 exposures at five elementary schools: FW Howay Elementary School on Dec. 8 and 9; Glenbrook Middle School on Dec. 7; New Westminster Secondary School on Dec. 7; Queen Elizabeth Elementary School Dec. 7, 8 and 9; and Queensborough Middle School Dec. 7, 8 and 9. Exposures on all of these dates have been previously reported at these schools.

According to Fraser Health, notifications are removed from the website after the 14-day incubation period has passed from date of exposure and the risk of transmission has passed.

Three of the New Westminster School District’s 12 schools have yet to report an exposure – Connaught Heights Elementary, Herbert Spencer Elementary and Lord Kelvin Elementary.
