Another date has been added to the COVID-19 exposures list for Al-Hidayah School in New Westminster.

Another date has been added to the COVID-19 exposures list for an independent school in New Westminster.

Al-Hidayah School saw an exposure on Oct. 25, according to the most recent update to the Fraser Health school exposures site. The school also saw  an exposure or exposures on Oct. 18, 20, 21 and 22 (previously reported on Oct. 27). The dates mark the school's first exposures in the 2021/22 school year. Last year, the independent school saw one cluster of cases that shut the school for two weeks in November because of the staffing challenges associated with the positive cases.

An "exposure" means that someone who has since tested positive for COVID-19 was in the school during their potentially infectious period on the date or dates in question, and that other people may be at risk of having come in contact with the virus. Health officials do not publish the number of cases involved, so it's not known whether the dates involve one person or multiple cases. The public information also does not list whether cases involve staff or students, or both.

So far in the 2021/21 school year, eight of the New Westminster school district's 12 schools have seen exposures, along with two independent schools (the other being Urban Academy).
