The documentary Soldiers Without Guns is one of the featured films in this year's New West Film Fest.

1. Check out a great lineup of documentaries and attend an opening gala for the 2019 New West Film Fest, running from Friday, Oct. 18 to Sunday Oct. 20. Details and tickets at www.newwestfilmfest.ca.

2. Discover the Creative Side of Aging at the 2019 Seniors Festival, featuring keynote speaker, artist Robert Bateman. The free festival, taking place at Century House on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes entertainment, an interactive art experience, door prizes, an information fair and more. Century House is at 620 Eighth St. in Moody Park.

3. Enjoy a night out and support local youths at the 2019 Hyack Football Tailgate Auction on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at La Perla Ballroom at River Market. The evening kicks off with a beer and wine tasting, followed by a dinner, an auction and entertainment. Tickets are $70 and available at hyackfootballtailgateauction.com.

4. Enjoy an eclectic evening of entertainment at Rock & Roll Carnival: Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps). The show is at the Columbia Theatre on Friday, Oct. 18, with doors opening at 7 and the show beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets at www.thecolumbia.ca or 604-522-4500.

This free event is at 920 Ewen Ave. Diwali is a traditional Indian festival celebrating positive energy, prosperity, knowledge and hope.

6. Head to The New Westminster Museum to see the You Are What You Eat! Community Food Security exhibit before it ends on Oct. 20. The museum is in Anvil Centre, 777 Columbia St.

7. Attend the New West Artists third annual Black and White Show and Sale at the Network Hub in River Market, 810 Quayside Dr. An opening reception is on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. The show runs from noon to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, until Nov. 28.
