Operation Popcorn returns to New Westminster

What's happening Around Town

It’s the time of year when organ transplant recipients, living donors and donor family members thank hospital staff for their work in supporting organ donation across B.C.

Coun. Chuck Puchmayr was once again on board with the Operation Popcorn event hosted by BC Transplant, where people whose lives have been saved by organ donation deliver festive packages of popcorn to staff in intensive care units, emergency departments and operating rooms across the province. Operation Popcorn, including team captain/heart recipient Elizabeth Edward, visited Royal Columbian Hospital on Dec. 4.

The longtime councillor was the team captain for the contingent that visited Burnaby Hospital on Dec. 6. Puchmayr, who was New Westminster’s MLA from 2005 to 2009, underwent a life-saving liver transplant at Vancouver General Hospital in January 2009.

Now in its 28th year, more than 100 volunteers with Operation Popcorn visited 26 hospitals and delivered more than 100 packages this year.
