What's happening Around Town

The New Westminster Public Library, which is among the facilities that have been closed to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, is one of the go-to places folks can go to beat the heat in the summer. Council wants staff to have a look at the city's heat emergency plan and consider how it's impacted by COVID-19.

The New Westminster Historical Society is serving up a mixed bag of topics at its first meeting of 2020.

The society is featuring “another miscellaneous start to the new year” at its presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. in the New Westminster Public Library auditorium, 716 Sixth Ave.

“Following what has become the basic theme for the January presentation of the historical society, the evening will include a set of intriguing photographs including some ‘new’ close-up views of the city, a selection of research tales that offer very interesting results and some simple historical accounts that once were parts of some general speaking notes. And there are always other things included as well,” said a press release from the historical society. “This will be a great start to the new year of 2020.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the free presentation, and there’s no need to pre-register.
