New Westminster cheerleaders are headed to Las Vegas this weekend hot off a successful provincial championship last month.
Two Royal City Cheer all-star teams (Sublime and Eminence) head south of the border to the Nfinity Champions League Competition May 10 to12.
On April 13, the local cheer club sent five teams to Kamloops to the first ever B.C. Cheerleading Championships and came away with a fistful of medals.
Sublime, the highest scoring team in the Level 2 All Star category, were Grand Champions, the overall winners of the tournament.
Jewels and Glitter captured gold in the Tiny Novice and Level 1 Prep categories respectively.
Glam took second place in Level 1 Prep, and Eminence earned third place in Level 1 All Star.
All of Royal City’s solos, Joyce Grant, 8, Jessika Melo, 9, and Irene Dolzhikov, 12, took gold, as did the club’s duo of Stella Catania, 9, and Jadelyn Bibera, 8.
“B.C.s were a big win for us,” head coach Nicole Pasacreta said. "Our boys and girls are amazing and work so hard for the sport they love.”
Royal City Cheer, formed in 2015, has cheer programs people three years old to adults.
Tryouts for all-star teams are coming up in June. Beginner programs run all year.
Next year, the club is launching a parent team.
