New West woman seeks support for community-warming project

What's happening Around Town

A local woman is looking for crafty folks who would like to help chase the chill away this winter.

Last fall, Dee Cavanagh launched Chase the Chill New Westminster, knitting numerous scarves and toques to be dispersed locally – and encouraging others to do the same. Volunteers are needed to help with this year’s community project.

Cavanagh will begin collecting items in September and will disperse the knitted and crocheted scarves and toques in December. The items will be made available for anyone to take, regardless of status of income.

“2018 was the first year for this event. On Dec. 15 in Hyack Square, 66 scarves and 44 toques were distributed,” she said in an email to the Record. “Community members were surprised and delighted to get something for free.”

If you would like to contribute a handmade item or items this year, message Cavanagh at Chase the Chill in New Westminster on Facebook or email at ctcnw@yahoo.com.
