A dunk tank and a pie-eating contest were part of the fun at the kickoff for Legion Week.

The annual event is held to raise awareness about the work done by the Royal Canadian Legion. It’s also a chance for the Branch 2 of the Royal Canadian Legion to raise funds for another non-profit in the community, with funds raised at this year’s events going to Honour House.

Legion Week festivities on June 21 and 22 included a free barbecue, draws, a dunk tank, a pie-eating contest, a bake sale and more. The Legion teamed up with Royal City Wrestling on several components of the weekend bash, including Saturday’s dunk tank and Sunday’s blueberry pie-eating contest.

New Westminster-Burnaby MP Peter Julian and the Royal City Defenders – Mr. India (Rish Koya) and Johnny X (Mayor Jonathan Cote) – judged the contest.

Community Members are invited to attend the Legion Week wrap-up on Saturday, June 29 at 3 p.m. at 631 Sixth St. The event includes a cake-cutting ceremony and cheque presentation to Honour House.
