Knox Presbyterian Church is hoping to add a little sweetness to the holiday season.

The church is hosting its second annual You Pick Christmas Cookie Sale and Market on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event features a variety of handmade Christmas cookies that are being sold by weight – $2.50 per one-quarter pound (4oz).

Antonia Reynolds, a member of the congregation, said the idea came from an annual fundraiser held at a church in Wisconsin. She’s unaware of similar offerings locally.

“We sold out last year. There are so many types of cookies on offer; people will just have to come and check them out – sugar and spice, and all things nice,” she said in an email to the Record. “It is my hope to start a new annual tradition in New Westminster with this event.”

Most of the cookies included in the sale are handmade and/or decorated. In addition to a wide variety of cookies appealing to all tastes, most come with a list of ingredients for those who may have allergy concerns.

“Visitors are given a disposable glove for choosing, and a paper bag for carrying their selections – or can also bring own cookie tin,” Reynolds said.

The cookie sale is part of the Knox Presbyterian Church’s annual Christmas sale, which also includes tables with crafts and products for gift giving and photos with Santa.

Knox Church is located at 403 East Columbia St., kitty corner to Royal Columbian Hospital. For those taking transit, it’s not too far from the Sapperton SkyTrain station and is close to the 109 and 155 bus routes.
