Here's what to expect if it snows and your kids go to a New Westminster school

The days are shorter and it’s getting colder. Before you know it, we could be covered in a blanket of snow.

If that day does come, there’s a couple things parents of school-age children should know. First, the New Westminster school district has a severe weather protocol in the event of really, really bad weather, including snowfall.

While rare, sometimes schools do shut down because of bad weather. If the district decides to close the schools that decision will be made by 6:30 a.m. and will be broadcast on the radio on CKNW AM 980 and CBC AM 690, according to a letter from superintendent Karim Hachlaf.

Parents who’ve signed up for the SchoolMessenger system will receive a phone and email about any closures. The school’s website as well as the district’s site will also be updated with any relevant information.
