What’s happening?

The New Westminster Firefighters Charitable Society is hosting its annual charity tree chipping event. Chipping is by donation, and all the money goes to help the society continue its support of various programs in the community.

When is it?

The two-day event is on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. It’s taking place at the parking lot at Canada Games Pool.

What else is planned?

Plan to stay a while after you’ve dropped off your old tree. The firefighters are planning a barbecue, and there will be music and live fire safety demonstrations going on throughout the day, too. (If you’re lucky you might even get to put out a fire with the fire extinguisher.)

Is that it?

Not quite. The New Westminster Scouts will also be at the event collecting empty beverage containers, and the New Westminster Lions Club will be there taking old clothes.
