Here's what's happening at Century House in March

Century House had a full house for Inspiration Day on Feb. 22 - but there are plenty of other events happening at the local seniors centre for you to enjoy in March.

LEADS workshops are tackling a variety of topics in the coming weeks – and you’re invited to check them out.

Learning, Education And Developing Seniors (LEADS) is a training program that provides a supportive environment where participates can develop the skills and confidence they need to take on leadership roles in the community. Here are some of the topics of LEADS workshops coming up in the next few weeks at Century House.

Monday, March 2: Creativity and Learning presentation. Did you know that learning to create anything will stimulate brain cells and help keep you young and active?

Monday, March 9: Downsizing for seniors. Learn about the importance of thinking about downsizing now and about the process and main concerns.

Monday, March 16: Oral health and overall health – is there a connection? Did you know studies have shown a link between poor oral health and conditions such as heart disease, stroke and respiratory infections?

Monday, March 23: The honeybees come to New Westminster. This presentation features topics including back yard beehives, honey laundering, common predators of bees, folklore and more.

All presentations take place at Century House from 1 to 2:30 p.m. If you want to attend, sign up at the front desk.

There’s lots happening on the entertainment front at Century House in March. Here are a few dates to keep in mind:

Saturday, March 7, 1 to 3 p.m.: March Cal’s Karaoke. Karaoke host Cal Donnelly leads this monthly party. Refreshments will be served from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Thursday, March 12, 7 to 8:30 p.m. – Board Games Night. This all-ages event gives folks a chance to play a variety of games including Sorry, Clue, Jenga, Yahtzee, cribbage, Rummoli, Parcheesi, playing cards and more. You can also bring a board game you want to share with new friends. Sign up at the front office if you’re planning to attend.

Wednesday, March 18: Night in Ireland. Celebrate the Emerald Isle at this event that begins with happy hour at 5 p.m. and dinner (Irish stew) at 6 p.m. Irish dancing and music round out this fun night out. Tickets are $22 for members and $26.50 for non-members.
